India wins SABA Championship

India India is once again the title holder of the SABA Championship after beating host nation Nepal 74-41 to claim its second title in the three year old event. Created by the South Asian Basketball Association, the SABA Championship is a gateway for FIBA Asia into the wider Asian Cup. India won the inaugural event in 2012 and has repeated the feat in 2014 after seeing Bangladesh lift the trophy last season.

The three day event has been held in Nepal this season and India has claimed victory against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. Looking vastly the superior team, the Indians have never looked troubled, beating Bangladesh 39-93, Sri Lanka 97-30, and Nepal 74-41. India has now qualified for the 2014 FIBA Asian Cup and will participate at the competition hosted in Wuhan in July.
