Zeke Upshaw passes away following on-court collapse

This morning we reported on Zeke Upshaw, a 26-year old Detroit Pistons developmental player who collapsed during a game and was in critical condition. The Grand Rapids Drive, the team he was representing, has announced Zeke Upshaw has sadly passed away.

Jewel Upshaw, the player’s mother released a statement confirming his passing, while taking the time to thank the team and fans. Upshaw had played a big part in Saturday’s game, netting 11 points as the Drive locked down a playoff spot with a 101-99 victory over the Long Island Nets.

However, he never completed the game as he collapsed on court and was taken to hospital. That cause of the collapse and his subsequent death has not been disclosed. Steve Jbara, team owner of the Grand Rapids Drive said Upshaw was a credit to the community, especially in the way he inspired children.
