Vougioukas to help with post duties for Unics

Unics Kazan shored up its frontline by signing former Euroleague champ Ian Vougioukas, who ranked third in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague last season in per-minute scoring. The sides penned a two-year deal. Vougioukas (2.11 meters, 27 years old) was an important cog off the bench for Panathinaikos the past two seasons. Last year he averaged 7.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.7 blocks over 12 minutes per game for the Greens. Extrapolated over 40 minutes, he was third-best in scoring with 23.8 points per game, fourth in performance index rating with 26.8 per game, 10th in blocks (2.16 bpg.) and 13th in offensive rebounding (3.75 orpg). At Unics he joins former Panathinaikos teammate Kostas Kaimakoglou, who signed in Kazan last week. During his time with the Greens, The two helped Panathinaikos with one Greek League crown, one Greek Cup and the 2011 Euroleague championship. He had previously played for Panellinios, Olympiacos and Ago Rethimno in his native Greece after a stint playing college basketball at Saint Louis University. Vougioukas helped Panellinios to make it to the Eurocup Finals in 2010. He represented the Greek national team at the 2010 FIBA World Championships and won a silver medal at the 2005 World under-20 Championships.
