Unicaja signs veteran swingman Vidal

Unicaja remained busy the day after signing Krunoslav Simon by bringing in veteran swingman Sergi Vidal on a two-year deal. Vidal (2.00 meters, 31 years old), a veteran of 190 Euroleague games over 11 seasons with Tau Ceramica/Caja Laboral Baskonia and Real Madrid, spent last season with Lagun Aro GBC, where he was among the Spanish League’s best players last season. Vidal averaged 11 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 steals for a performance index rating of 16.3. Vidal played the bulk of his professional career with Baskonia – nine seasons – during which he appeared in four Euroleague Final Fours and played for the title in the 2001 finals series against Kinder Bologna and in the 2005 title game against Maccabi in Moscow. Vidal also recorded two Spanish League championships and four Spanish King’s Cups with the club, which he originally joined from DKV Joventut Badalona. In 2009 Vidal was sent to Madrid along with Pablo Prigioni as parts of a trade. Despite not playing in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague last season, Vidal ranks 12th all-time in games played and 16th with 175 career steals. Vidal has also represented the Spanish national team at both the junior and senior levels. He was a member of the gold-medal winning team at the 1999 World Under-18 Championships.
