Polish TBL champions Stelmet Zielona Gora continued to stamp its authority on Basketball in the country with a 66-67 victory over Rosa Radom in the Supercup. Radom headed into the contest as holders of the Polish Cup and proved why they could not be underestimated as they run the champs close. Indeed, Stelmet Zielona Gora only managed a single digit victory, 66-67.
Nevertheless a win is a win, and the TBL title holders will start the regular season in trophy winning form, while Rosa Radom are also in decent shape heading into the curtain raiser for the 2015/2016 campaign.
Indeed, the cup holders took the early initiative and built a 22-16 lead over their Euroleague opponents during the first act. In the second frame Zielona Gora concentrated at both ends of the floor and reduced the deficit to two points through the long break, 38-36. Radom went again in the third quarter and built on its lead with an impressive period that handed them a 58-52 lead through thirty minutes. Stelmet Zielona Gora rallied in the fourth stanza and tore into the lead before snatching the game at the end courtesy of Mateusz Ponitka.
Mateusz Ponitka was pivotal with 26 points, followed by Dee Bost’s 12 points for the TBL champs.
C.J. Harris matched Pntika’s 26 points haul in the losing effort, while Torey Thomas sent 14 points through the bucket.
