Spain ACB: Bilbao upset by Cajasol at home

Real Madrid extended its winning streak in this years Spain ACB competition with a road win over Asefa Estudiantes, 74:87. The win pushes the string to 11 and gives Madrid a three-game lead on the rest of the field as four clubs are tied for second with 8-3 records. Each quarter of the contest was close, but with the visitors outscoring their hosts in all four quarters, the margin extended all the way through. Rudy Fernandez paced the winners with 17 points and German Gabriel led Asefa with 24.

Week 11 saw two major upsets as Cajasol, who was 1-9 on the season entering the game, traveled to take on Bilbao (8-2) on their home turf and came away with a 76:79 win. The win improved Cajasol to 2-9, which puts them in 16th place in the league, and Bilbao drops to 8-3 and in a tie for second with three other teams. Cajasol came from behind 34:30 at halftime to earn the win. The other upset came at the hands of Valladolid, who hosted second-placed club Valencia, and came away with a 74:66 win. The hosts opened the contest with a 25:12 margin, but Valencia countered in the second winning the frame 14:25 to come into the locker down two, 39:37. Valladolid owned the third quarter, building on their two point margin and extending it to 13, 61:48. Valencia closed the contest cutting the gap five, but it wasn’t enough and they fell into a four-way tie for the second spot in the league at 8-3.
