Sam Jones head coach of Den Bosch

Samuel JonesSam Jones has been promoted to the position of head coach at Eiffel Towers Den Bosch in the Dutch Eredivisie replacing outgoing tactician Raoul Koerner. American born Jones (who also holds a Dutch passport) can now boast of being a player, assistant coach, and head coach of Eiffel Towers Den Bosch.

The 35-year old has been the assistant to Koerner since 2010 and during his three years as second in command he has seen Den Bosch claim the 2012 Eredivisie Championships and this year’s Dutch Cup. This season the team finished the regular season at the top of the league but only managed the semi-finals of the Eredivisie Play-Off stage.

Koerner has now stepped down as head coach to find a bigger challenge, allowing Sam Jones to step into his shoes as head coach, the first time he will have held such a position. Jones will bring plenty of experience of the club with him and will fit immediately into place thanks to also spending from 2002 and 2007 as a guard for Den Bosch.

The club released a statement highlighting the plan for Jones to take on the top coaching position.

Sam Jones has developed significantly in recent years. It’s been the intention to eventually slide Sam through from the beginning and with the departure of Korner that time is now. We attach great importance to the culture of the club, so I have great confidence in this step.” said general manager Jos Frederiks
