Salah Merji looks to block shots in the Liga Endesa

Salah Merji

Salah Merji looks to block the shot of a Nigerian competitor at the London Games.

Salah Merji recently penned a deal with Blusens Monbus Obradoiro C.A.B. in Dantiago de Compostela, Spain, to bring his 2.17m frame to the Liga Endesa for the 2012-13 season. Merji, from Tunisa, led all shot blockers in the London 2012 Olympics, averaging 3.4 swats per contest. On top of that, he also averaged 10.4 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Tunisians in London.

A mainstay on the Tunisia National team, he’s played in the 2010 FIBA World Championships, the Afrobasket 2011 and now the Olympics.
“To be the best shot-blocker of the Olympic Games was a real challenge for me,” Merji stated. “Especially when you consider there were accomplished players in this area at the Olympics like (Spain’s and Oklahoma City Thunder’s) Serge Ibaka.”
He spent the last couple of seasons with the Belgian squad Antwerp Giants and played in the US this summer trying to catch an NBA team’s eye to his talents.

    @Bart,

    I will wait 🙂 …
    I did not noticed that he was that young.
    as a big man, he still have time to develop his game.
    Spanish coaches are great in development of players.

    He is still a project.
    Don’t know how he wil fit in with the more physical play of the spanish competition.

    Saw him play a couple of times last season.
    He has very good games, but then again he had very bad games as well.

    Wait and see I guess.
