Ryan McDonough is Phoenix Suns new GM
The Phoenix Suns have found their replacement for former General Manager Lance Banks. The Suns have announced that they are hiring Ryan McDonough to fill the position. McDonough has been a long-time part of the Boston Celtics organization. He has served as assistant general manager for the past three seasons.
“Ryan distinguished himself among an impressive group of candidates for our GM position,” Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby said. “His natural leadership and communication skills will serve the Suns well. And, his prodigious work ethic and ability to identify talent will enable us to take full advantage of the 10 draft choices, including six in the first round, that we have over the next three years. We welcome his championship pedigree to our organization.”
Ryan will have an uphill battle to lift the team. The Suns finished with their second-worst record in franchise history this 2012-13 season with a Western Conference-worst record of 25-57. McDonough will now have to figure out how to match personnel with a clear-cut direction for the future. As a team, they have some assets that they can move to shake things up, but the first step will likely be to find a new head coach.
