Rosen Barchovski resigns as Bulgaria’s National Team Coach

Rosen BarchovskiRosen Barchovski has announced that after the final two games of the EuroBasket 2013 Qualification series that he will step down as the coach of the Bulgarian National Team. In a prepared statement, Barchovski stated that he will do everything possible to guide the squad to qualifying for the the EuroBasket 2013 Finals, but regardless of what happens, he will not be there to lead them after that. He also thanked the Ministry of Physical Education and Sports in Bulgaria, as well as the Bulgarian Basketball Federation for the support they gave him and the team in preparing for this season. He went as far as thanking Georgi Glushkov, the President of the Bulgarian Basketball Federation and Philip Videnov, the captain of the team, for the support they gave him. He also called on Bulgarian players not participating in the EuroBasket Qualifiers, brothers Deyan and Kaloyan Ivanov, E. J. Rowland, Tencho Banev, Filip Videnov, to come together next summer and forget the past, but to play for Bulgaria.
“I will do everything possible to qualify,” Barchovski stated. “I’m taking both games and will give everything, but human morality requires me to submit my resignation now. I take full responsibility, whatever happens.”
Barchovski has coached the Bulgarian squad in every EuroBasket competition since 2005 and has been a head coach since 1995 and is currently the head coach of Rilski Sportist Samokov in the Bulgarian NBL.
