Rondo ACL tear shocks Celtics

Rondo
The Boston Celtics are reeling today as they come to terms with the news that star point guard Rajon Rondo (185 cm, Kentucky’06) is to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. The injury put a damper on celebrations as the Celtics recorded a 100-98 double overtime win over the Miami Heat.

After initial reports of a hyper-extended knee inflicted during Friday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks, Rondo was in contention to play against the Heat on Sunday, but the team doctor scratched the 26-yeard old and sent him for an MRI. The result confirmed that the player had torn his right ACL during the game with the Hawks (see video below) and would sit out the season. the Celtics confirmed the injury after the game against Miami.

Rajon Rondo is fast becoming the star of the Boston Celtics, and this season over 38 games he has averaged 13.7 points, 11.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds. The four time All-Star is now expected to return for the start of next season, meaning he will also miss next month’s All-Star game for which he was selected for the 5th time.

“Obviously the Rondo news is tough,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said after the game (against The Heat). “I knew before the game, but I didn’t tell anyone. Obviously it was pretty emotional.”

His absence will be a big hit for the Celtics! Hopefully they can make it work without him.
