Rod Browns joins Marjon Plymouth Raiders

Rod Brown

The UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders have announced the exciting signing of British point guard, Rod Brown. Brown joins the Raiders following a period of uncertainty over when or even if Jeremy Bell was going to be able to return to the team, following his decision to return to the USA for personal reasons.

Brown undoubtedly has the best pedigree of any of Raiders player to date. He started his professional career in the BBL, playing for the London Leopards and London Towers for five years, before moving to Spain, where he played in the ACB league – widely renowned as the 2nd best league in the world. He then moved to the Greek first division, Spain, Italy, Cyprus and last season he played in Switzerland.

“We understood Jeremy’s need to return to the USA for personal reasons,” said Raiders’ coach Gavin Love. “However, with the uncertainty of when or if Jeremy would be returning this season, we had to take the decision to replace him. He’s done a great job for us over the last season and a half, and to lose one of the top guards in British basketball is a really difficult situation.”

Brown lead Lugano to 3 trophies last season while playing in the top Swiss league, averaging 12 points and 6 assists per game.

“While losing Jeremy was a tough situation, to pick up someone with Rod’s experience and ability to make those around him better was an opportunity we had to take. He’s a proven point guard, and leader and played great last season with Lugano in the top Swiss league. He has played in some of the best leagues in Europe throughout his career, and is looking forward to joining up with us later this week.”

Without a game this coming weekend, it gives Brown the opportunity to really get to know the rest of the team before embarking on the 2nd half of the season. His first game will be against the Manchester Giants at the Plymouth Pavilions on th3 19th January.

Bell left the Raiders immediately after the home win over Leicester on 16th December. He asked for some time to sort out a personal problem, which Raiders granted him. However, he was unable to confirm a date that he would be in a position to return to the team.
