Poland shocks the basketball world and sends reigning champs Slovenia home at FIBA Eurobasket 2022

Poland reached the FIBA Eurobasket 2022 semi-finals yesterday with a stunning 90-87 triumph against reigning champs Slovenia. It was one of the biggest upsets at FIBA EuroBasket 2022 so far.

Slovenia had fought back from a 23-point first-half deficit, but Poland had the final say with a strong finish to seal their place in the last four of the tournament for the first time since 1971.

Turning Point: It was a one-point game at 29-28 early in the second, but by the midway point, Poland had compiled a 15-1 run to take control before seeing their lead move beyond the 20-point mark in a stunning effort. Game over? Think again. Slovenia came out rejuvenated, and a 26-6 spell saw them take back the lead early in the fourth and were up by four. Game over? Think again. Poland found their shooting touch again as they made the big shots when it mattered most.

TCL Player of the Game: Mateusz Ponitka once again for Poland. Sixteen points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the first half alone before shaking off a third-quarter wobble to finish only the third triple-double at EuroBasket since 1995 with 26 points, 16 rebounds, and ten assists. Cue MVP chants from the vocal Polish fans in attendance.
