Pallacanestro Cantu turned to another promising player to bolster its squad by signing power forward Alex Tyus to a two-year deal. Tyus (2.03 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Maccabi Ashdod, with whom he made his European basketball debut last season in the Israeli League. He averaged 13.3 points on 66.5% shooting, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 24 games to help Ashdod reach the title game. He ranked fourth in the league in both rebounding and blocks. Before coming to Israel, Tyus played college basketball at the University of Florida for four seasons. He has received Israeli citizenship and is preparing to play with the Israeli national team at this summer’s EuroBasket qualifying games.
