LeBron James – Youngest to 20,ooo points
LeBron James had a banner day on Wednesday against the Golden State Warriors, eclipsing two significant career milestones in the same game, picking up his 20,000th point and dishing off his 5,000th assist.
Entering the game he was 18 points shy of 20,000 and picked that up with 2:45 left in the second stanza.
He was 28 years, 17 days old when he hit the milestone, lowering the previous mark for youngest player to 20,000 points by well over one year. The previous mark was held by Kobe Bryant who was 29 years, 122 days when he hit his 20,oooth on Dec., 23, 2007 (811th game of his 12th season).
In what will most likely become a question in a future genius edition of a sports-related trivia game, Dwyane Wade was the recipient of James’ 5,000th assist in the first quarter.
James becomes the 38th player in NBA history to score 20,000 or more points, the 55th to dish off 5,000 assists, and the 13th to pick up 20,000 points and 5,000 assists.
James didn’t get to 20,000 points faster than anyone else, he’s actually eighth on that list behind Wilt Chamberlain (499 games in 7 seasons), who averaged over 30 points a game for 14 seasons with a high of 50.4ppg in 1061-62 (3,882 points and 2052 rebounds over 80 games).
