Montepasch Siena tabs guard Kemp

Italian League champion Montepaschi Siena reenforced its perimeter for the 2012-13 Turkish Airlines Euroleague season by signing swingman Marcelus Kemp to a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday. Kemp (1.96 meters, 28 years old) comes off a very successful season with Besiktas JK Istanbul, with whom he won the Turkish Cup, Turkish League and FIBA EuroChallenge titles. Kemp averaged 9.6 points per game in the Turkish League and 11.1 in the EuroChallenge. Kemp began his pro career in Italy’s second division with Livorno in 2008 and the following season helped Sassari win promotion to the first division by scoring 21.4 points per game. His third team in Italy was Virtus Bologna, for whom he scored 13.6 points and pulled 4.4 rebounds on average before transferring to Besiktas in the middle of the 2010-11 season. Before turning pro, Kemp started his career at University of Nevada in his native United States, coming back from a knee injury to become his team’s top scorer.
