Memphis Grizzlies see off Flamengo

Memphis GrizzliesFlamengo’s NBA tour saw the team collect another defeat as the Brazilian champions slipped to a thumping loss against the Memphis Grizzlies. The franchise welcomed Flamengo to the FedEx Forum and dished out a 112-72 demolition job that was paced by Spaniard Marc Gasol.

As has been the case against other NBA outfits, Flamengo kept pace in the opening stages, but the Memphis Grizzlies clearly had more strength, especially from the bench. After ten minutes on the hardwood the USA team had opened a 27-20 lead. The visitors fought back in the second frame and briefly tied the game, but that woke the Memphis contingent up. The hosts hit 31 points through the period to open a 62-41 lead at the long break. The Grizzlies built the first half advantage thanks in part to 20 turnovers conceded by Flamengo in the opening 24 minutes, resulting in 29 points. In the third quarter the NBA team slotted home buckets galore to open a 34 point lead after 30 minutes, and never looked back down the stretch.

Marc Gasol offered 15 points and 8 rebounds in the win, while Tony Allen scored 14 and Quincy Pondexter 13.

Marcelo Magalhaes hit a game high 17 points in the losing effort, with Marquinhos Vieira netting 14.
