Marquis Blakely leaves Riesen

Marquis Blakely (194 cm, Vermont ’10) has left the Neckar Riesen Ludwigsburg (Germany-BBL) for family reasons. Risen Ludwigsburg are 6-14 in the BBL for 16th spot in the league. Prior to Ludwigsburg Blakely had signed with Telecom Baskets Bonn (Germany-BBL) as recently as December, but was released when he failed the required medical tests. The forward was on the LA Clippers’s roster for the 2010 preseason before moving to Bakersfield Jam in D-League where he played 25 games and averaged 13.0 ppg and 6.1 rpg while shooting 57.4%. Before that he played in Philippines with B-Meg Llamados with whom he averaged 22.4 ppg and 13.4rpg.

For Vermont, Marquis Blakely played 35 games and averaged 17.3 ppg and 9.3 rpg. He was the All-AEC Player of the Year and defensive player of the year for ’08 and ’09 and made it to the All AEC 1st Team. He was the AEC All-Tournament MVP in ’10. He also won the 2010 Division 1 College Basketball Slam Dunk Contest. He led the American East in steals and blocks. He went undrafted in the NBA draft.
