Maris Gulbis named BBL Player of the Month

RIGA – Having guided Barons kvartals to a third-place finish in Group C and a spot in the Top 16, Maris Gulbis received the Baltic Basketball League Player of the Month honors for the month of December.

The 27-year-old Latvian forward has been enjoying a stellar season in Riga, but was especially dominant during the last three games of the previous year and led his team to three victories.

Gulbis was a match-up nightmare for Group C rivals, scoring 23 points, snatching up 4.3 rebounds per game and shooting at an amazing 47% clip from beyond the three-point line in December.

His best performance came in the last game of the regular season against Tallinn Kalev, which allowed Barons to qualify to the Top 16 stage.

Gulbis scored an amazing 28 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and also added a pair of assists, allowing Barons to grab a comfortable 89-72 victory.

The player returned to his native Latvia during the summer after a successful season in the Portuguese league and has been the key player for Barons this season.
