Marco Belinelli leaves the NBA for Virtus Bologna

Marco Belinelli (196 cm, G) is returning to Italy to play for Virtus Bologna of the Lega Basket Serie A after signing a three-year deal with the club, according to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Belinelli will be returning to his home country after not receiving any NBA offers that were to his liking. So, the 34-year-old will go back to the team he played for professionally at 16 years old.

If this is the end of Belinelli’s NBA career, his 1,216 made three-pointers rank 70th all-time in NBA history, and he won an NBA title with the Spurs in 2014.

Last season, Belinelli averaged 6.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 37% shooting from the three-point line in 57 games played. His time in San Antonio was all but over when the team decided to go forward with their youth movement, draft players at his position, and re-signed guard Quinndary Weatherspoon.

He helped the Spurs win a championship in 2014.

Belinelli spent 13 years in the NBA playing for nine different teams. He was the 18th overall pick in the 2007 draft.
