Marc Gasol to join Lakers

Marc Gasol is joining the reigning NBA champion Los Angele Lakers, according to published reports.

The three-time All-Star and the club have finalized a two-year deal.

The 35-year-old big man played for the Toronto Raptors for the past 1 1/2 years. Gasol spent the majority of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies before being traded to the Raptors and helping them win the 2019 NBA title.

Marc Gasol’s NBA career could have started with the Lakers. In the 2007 NBA Draft, Los Angeles made him a second-round pick (48th overall). But Memphis acquired him in a 2008 trade that sent his older brother Pau to the Lakers. At the time of the trade, Gasol was playing for Girona in the Spanish League.

Gasol earned the 2012-13 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award.
