Jurij Zdovc fired by St Petersburg

Jurij Zdovc
Jurij Zdovc is no longer the head coach at Spartak Saint Petersburg (Russia, VTB United Leage and PBL) after the club officially announced that it has relieved the Slovenian of his duties. Zdovac took the helm at Spartak in 2011 and signed a three year deal with the St Petersburg club, but after a moderately successful first season the Spartak hierarchy has not been impressed by the teams progression this campaign.

Under the guidance of Jurij Zdovc Spartak St Petersburg crashed out of the Eurocup with a loss to Budivelnyk at the quarter finals stage this season. The team has only managed to find middling results in the Russian PBL this season, and despite sitting in a playoff position a record of 8-8 has disappointed the management and fans alike.

However, Zdovc has drawn some form from his team in the VTB United League, where the club is sitting 4th in Group A with a 12-6 record. That has not been enough to keep Zdovc in his job though and the former Union Olimpija coach has been fired. Replacing Zdovc is Evgeni Kisurin who has been coaching the Spartak U23 team.
