Joey Dorsey said to have signed with Gaziantep

Joey DorseyA few weeks ago Joey Dorsey (203 cm, Memphis’08) was released by Olympiacos (Greece-A1) and originally it was thought that he was heading back to the US because he might have been offered tryout with an NBA squad. Today, it appears that Dorsey may have found a new squad to suit up for in Turkey as it’s being reported that Royal Hali Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediye (Turkey-TBL) has signed the big man to finish out the 2012-13 season. According to the club’s Twitter feed and Facebook pages, they have scheduled a press conference for 15:00 local time, but they haven’t given any indication as to what will be discussed. Dorsey was the 33rd pick overall (3rd pick in the 2nd round) of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He was immediately traded to the Houston Rockets in a three-team deal that also included Memphis. Dorsey has been in the NBA since the 2008-09 season but has seen very limited playing time, having only recorded court time in 61 games over three seasons, the most being 41 in 2010-11 with Toronto, where he averaged 2.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. While with Olympiacos in 2011-12 he averaged 6.6 points per game in the Greece A1 over 21 games and helped the club win the Euroleague Final Four and the Greece A1 League.

Joey Dorsey screwed up with Caja Laboral and when Olympiakos gave him a fresh clean slate at mid season he took advantage of it and was instrumental in they’re rise to the top. Yeah he’s a good player…Unfortunetely he’s not all there…. he critisized the whole team on twitter and skipped practise so they made an example out of him and let him go. He regrets it because Olympiakos is playing the best basketball in Europe once again especially since he left and replaced him with Josh Powell. They’ve won 5 straight since. To go from the top to some low Turkish team must really piss him off. He knows he screwed up again. I dont see him enjoying himself in Turkey although they do have a pretty good league its not as good as he had it that’s for sure. Have fun Dorsey. You went from defending the crown to playing on a last place Turkish league team.

The Turkish Championship looks more and more the best of Europe.
