Giovanni Petrucci named head of FIP

Giovanni Petrucci

Giovanni Petrucci has been named the new President of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP). He was the only candidate to replace outgoing President Dino Meneghin. Petrucci earned 94.78% of the vote in the election and will serve a four-year term.

Petrucci recently resigned as the President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), a position he held for 14 years, presiding over four Italian Olympic squads. “After 14 extraordinary years from every point of view, I’m leaving CONI in good health,” he said in a recent interview.

This marks a return to the helm of the FIP as prior to moving to the Italian Olympic Committee, he served two terms as the president of the federation.
