France ProA: 10 clubs filed for two openings

France ProA

When France ProA basketball opens their 2013-14 season later this year, there will be a major change, the league is expanding from the current 16-teams to the new 18-team structure. To fill up those two new slots the Lique Nationale de Basket (LNB) announced that they would take applications from teams interested in playing in the ProA division and set a deadline for those applications of Dec., 31, 2012. It was announced on Thursday that 10 clubs had submitted applications.

Three current ProA teams filed applications to give them a fall-back should their results from the 2012-13 season place them in a position of being relegated to ProB. Those clubs are Boulazac Basket, Cholet Basket, and SLUC Nancy Basket.

Six current ProB teams filed: Antibes Sharks, Bourg-en-Bresse, Chalons-Reims Basket, Fos-sur-Mer, Pau-Lacq-Orthez, and Saint Quentin Basketball.

One current Nationale 1 team filed: Orchies

A seven-member committee, including former President of the National Rugby League Serge Blanco, will review the applications and will have a decision made by April 30, 2013 as to which two of the 10 clubs that applied will be promoted to ProA.

By June 30, 2013, an announcement will be made, but no sooner than the finals of both ProA and ProB.

The applications will be judged based on financial viability (35% of the scoring), “organization and governance of the club” (25%), equipment (25%), and political marketing and communication (15%).
