BAT rules for Zouros

FIBA’s Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) has ruled in favor of Ilias Zouros in his claim against his former team, Zalgiris Kaunas. The ruling will mean that Zouros will receive €156,000 in compensation, his claim was for €300,000.

Zalgiris’ owner, Vladimir Romanov, fired Zouros after saying that team practices and assistant coaches weren’t properly supervised by Zouros. The ruling passed down by the BAT says that the decision to fire Zouros wasn’t justified.

The coach and club had an agreement that was to pay Zouros €33,000 a month for eight payment and a final two payments of €18,000, but the payments stopped after the first was disbursed.

So far BAT verdict are super fair. The problem is the domestic justice system in the respective countries were favoring clubs. BAT does not favor anybody. Good job by FIBA!!

That’s how I feel. Local justice favored clubs PLUS it could take years (sometimes 10) to get a verdict at all.
Now BAT is fair and pretty swift.

    Congrats to Ilias.
    Fair judgement I suppose.
Has anyone seen or read an award by the BAT that he found unjustified?
