Drew Nicholas released by CSKA Moscow

Drew NicholasDrew Nicholas (193 cm, Maryland’03) has been released by CSKA Moscow according to a release on their website. Nicholas came to CSKA from EA7 Emporior Armani Milan, where he averaged 7.4 points per game in the 2011-12 Euroleague. Prior to that he spent three seasons with Panathinaikos Athens, where he was instrumental in helping the squad win the Euroleague title in 2009 and 2011. Nicholas was a four-year contributor to the University of Maryland Terrapins basketball team, averaging 17.8 points per game in the tough Atlantic Coast Conference his senior year. That average was good enough to earn him the second spot on the ACC’s points per game leader board. Nicholas’ Maryland squad played in the NCAA tournament all four years he was there.

“We had no complaints about Nicholas’ dedication and hard work in practice and are grateful for his help to the team and coaching staff,” CSKA president Andrey Vatutin said. “We sincerely wish that Drew finds a new team and continues his successful career.”
