Derrick Byars leaves Humacao

Caciques de Humacao (Puerto Rico, BSN) has announced that the club has waived the contract of American Derrick Byars (207 cm, Vanderbilt’07) and he is now a free agent. The experienced swingman has featured in 7 BSN games this season after joining Humacao from German BBL team ALBA Berlin. With Berlin earlier in the campaign Byars played 18 times in the Euroleague and posted averages of 6.7ppg, 2.7rpg, and 1.0apg.

Derrick Byars has flirted with the NBA on numerous occasions and has pre-seasoned with the likes of the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and others. However, he has never been able to quite crack it in his native USA, but has forged a respectable career in Europe and South America.
