Derrick Byars joins Krasny Oktyabr

Russian VTB club Krasny Oktyabr Volograd has added Derrick Byars (201 cm, Vanderbilt’07) for the remainder of the 2013-14 season. The Tennessee native began the season with the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies, but was waived by the club after the preseason. Bryars had a brief stint in Puerto Rico’s BSN in June 2013, after signing with Caciques de Humacao. He played seven games for them and averaged 9.7 ppg and 3.0 rpg.

He began the 2012-13 season with the San Antonio Spurs (preseason) and later moved to ALBA Berlin from Germany’s BBL. He played 13 games for them in the German league and averaged 9.2 ppg and 2.7 rpg. Byars represented them in 18 Euroleague games and there he was able to average 6.7ppg and 2.9 rpg.
