‘Coupe de France de Basket’ entered into the Round of 16 on Tuesday with six of eight matches being played. The seventh will be contested on Wednesday and the final one on Tuesday, March 5th.

There were two upsets as Pro B club Boulogne-su-Mer knocked off Pro A Cholet Basket, 88:80, and NM1 club Sorgues defeated Pro B Bordeaux 98:93.

Tuesday, Feb. 26:
Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pro B) – Cholet Basket (Pro A), 88:80
Boulogne-sur-Mer provided one of the upsets on the day as they took down Pro A club Cholet Basket, 88:80, to advance to the Coupe de France quarterfinals where they’ll square off against either Lille (Pro B) or Strasbourg (Pro A).

Boulogne-sur-Mer also knocked of SLUC Nancy in the Coupe de France Round of 32, 103:87.

Cholet got the lead early, finishing the first quarter up 18:20. The hosts had a big second quarter, which ended with a 6:0 run right before the break, to earn a 25:16 advantage in the frame and to head into the break with a 43:36 advantage. Cholet countered in the third quarter and took the lead back, 58:61, with 10 minutes left to play. The clubs played even through the five-minute mark, with Cholet still up 69:71, then Boulogne took control and won the game on the free throw line. The hosts were a much better shooting team on Tuesday, dropping in 17 of 19 at the stripe (11 of 17 for Cholet), and 32 of 65 from the field (29 of 70 for Cholet).

Jonathan Rousselle led the field with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Kurt Cunningham added 16 points and 5 rebounds, Austen Rowland dropped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. AJ Slaughter was top scorer for Cholet with 19, also adding 6 assists. Rudy Jomby scored 17, Rudy Gobert added 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Evreux (Pro B) – Nanterre (Pro A), 71:79
Pro B squad Evreux gave Pro A Nanterre a run for their money as they took a 54:48 lead into the final 10, only to be outscored 17:31 in the last frame to drop an eight-point decision. The win sets Nanterre up to meet Limoges in the quarters.

A major difference in the game was shooting behind the arc as the hosts never found the cords on the long-ball, going 0 for 12, while Nanterre took advantage of some good long-range shots, dropping in 7 of 18.

The guests took the first quarter 12:16 and then held a 31:34 lead as the clubs retired to the dressing rooms for the intermission. Evreux then jumped out in the third frame getting up 46:40 mid-way through and holding on to the six-point advantage going into the final quarter. Nanterre pounded their hosts 8:20 in the first five minutes of the last period, to go from down six, to a six-point margin. They held on through the end of the contest to earn a spot in the quarterfinals against Limoges.

Chris Oliver paced Nanterre with 16 points and 5 rebounds, David Lighty added 14 points and 6 rebounds, Chris Warren and Juan Palacios (7 rebounds) added 12 points each. Jeremiah Wood was game-high for Evreux with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Gary Florimont added 12.

Blois (NM1) – Limoges (Pro A), 79:92
Pro A squad Limoges was matched up with NM1 club Blois and cruised to a 13-point road win, 79:92, to advance to the quarters against Pro A Nanterre.

Bloise stuck with Limoges through the first quarter, coming out of the first 10 with the scoreboard knotted at 19. Through the second the guests started to slowly pull away, with the half-time mark, 34:41. Limoges outscored Blois 45:51 in the second half to lock up their spot in the quarterfinals.

Jean Michel Mipoka and Kyle McAlarney scored 17 each to led Limoges, Colo Boungou added 15, and Jon Brockman had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Blois got a game-high 22 from Gary Staelens, 20 from Davlin Davis, and 18 points and 12 rebounds from Jonathan Tornato.

Sorgues (NM1) – Bordeaux (Pro B), 98:93
Sorgues continues to roll over Pro B clubs in the Coupe de France as Bordeaux became their third victim since the start of the competition. Starting with the Round of 64, Sorgues defeated Pro B club Aix Maurienne, 85:76, on Oct., 23rd then on Jan. 15th they defeated Hyeres Toulon Var, 93:84. On Tuesday, they downed Bordeaux 98:93 to move on to the quarterfinals against either Rouen (Pro B) or Paris Levallois (Pro A), a contest that will take place on Tuesday, March 5.

On the way to their impressive win, Sorgues scored 37 points in the second quarter, including 19 in the first five minutes going from being tied at 25 to holding a nine-point lead. Bordeaux knotted the contest at 85 mid-way through the fourth, but Sorgues opened a five-point advantage in the last half of the frame to book their spot in the quarters.

Leading the way for Sorgues was Ryan Walter Zamroz with 39 points, coming on 8 of 11 from behind the arc, 4 of 6 inside, and 7 of 8 from the line. Zamroz’s performance earned him an evaluation rating of 38 on the day. Cedric Mansare added 19 points and 6 rebounds. Bordeaux got 18 points and 7 rebounds from Nigel Wyatte, and 17 points from Rochel Chery.

ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne (Pro A) – Orléans (Pro A), 81:77
Lyon-Villeurbanne moved on to the quarterfinals with an 81:77 victory over Orleans and will face Roanne in the next round.

Orleans got the early lead getting up 5:13 mid-way through the first and finishing the first 10 with a four-point margin, 17:21. Lyon took control in the second, outscoring the guests 27:14 to take a 44:35 margin with them to the intermission. Orleans made solid adjustments at halftime and covered the deficit in the first five minutes of the third to knot the score up at 48, then went on to hold a slim advantage heading into the final frame, 56:59. The hosts took the lead back early in the fourth geting up 70:65 mid-way through the last stanza and holding off the challenge to advance with an 81:77 victory.

Edwin Jackson was top scorer for Lyon with 20, Amara Sy added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Chris Hill led Orleans with 20 points, and Brian Greene added 17.

Antibes OL (Pro B) – Roanne (Pro A), 58:88
Pro A club Roanne, easily handled their Coupe de France Round of 16 opponent, Pro B club Antibes, 58:88, to move on to the quarterfinals, where they will play Lyon-Villeurbanne.

Steve Gray led the way for Roanne with 16 points and 5 rebounds, Matt Howard added 14 points and 8 rebounds, Arthur Bouedo dropped in 12 points. Tim Blue was top man for Antibes with 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Jason Fontenetadded 10 points.
