Brazil defeat old foes Argentina

BrazilWhen Argentina and Brazil meet, even if it is in a pre-season friendly, it is never truly a Basketball friendly, such is the rivalry between the two Latin American countries. The two nations clashed on Monday in Rio de Janeiro, and it was the Brazilians who emerged victorious over their old foes with a 68-59 win.

The World Cup warm up saw the hosts take an early lead as Brazil with some solid play in the paint impressed early on. After 10 minutes the home team led the game 20-14. Argentina improved in the second frame as the controversy rocked team looked more consistent while scoring. By the interval the Argentines had pulled ahead to have a one point lead at 32-33. Brazil responded in a very tight and physical third quarter, but the visitors stayed close to make it a one point game with half hour on the clock (49-48). In the final frame the Argentine fight waned and the hosts managed to but some daylight on the scoreboard, eventually securing the win and the bragging rights.

Tiago Splitter set the tone for Brazil with 15 points, while Leandro Barbosa and Hilario Nene both picked up 10 points.

Facundo Campazzo hit enough buckets to be the game high scorer, with the Argentine good for 17 points. Campazzo was followed by Matias Bartolin with 14 points.
