Former Chicago Bulls center Bill Cartwright has been named the new head coach of the Mexican national team. He is replacing Sergio Valdemillos who came on board as the team’s coach in 2011. Valdemillos led his team to win the gold medal at the FIBA Americas Championship in 2013. The 57-year-old Cartwright played 16 seasons in the NBA and won three championships with the Chicago Bulls from 1991-1993. After his retirement, Cartwright joined the team’s coaching staff and helped the club win once again in 1997 and 1998. He became the Bulls’ head coach for three seasons (2001-03).
