Belarus season gets underway
While the 2014/2015 Basketball season is in full swing for most, some countries are still getting underway, such as the Belarus top flight. The Premier League tipped off on Friday, and as it was Halloween it is fitting that there were some monster scores taking place in Round 1. Check out the recap of all the first day action for the Belarus Premier League.
BGEU-RCOR Osipovichi vs. Borisfen Mogilev, 64-72
A close contest saw Mogilev come away with a victory over Osipovichi. A low scoring first quarter saw the teams trade scores, but the hosts eventually opened a narrow 13-12 lead after 10 minutes. A 15-20 run in the second gave the visitors the advantage at halftime, the score at 28-32. Mogilev consolidated through Q3 with a 19-23 winning streak, while a tied 17-17 fourth handed the spoils to the away team.
Rubon vs. Prinemane, 122-72
Rubon demolished Prinemane at home, winning a high scoring contest by 50 clear points. The hosts were never in doubt as the dominated each frame and controlled the hardwood from tip off. A 39-20 winning first frame set the tone, leading to a 30-14 second, 31-18 third, and a 22-20 fourth stanza.
GOCOR-Sozh Gomel vs. Tsmoki Minsk 2nd, 89-64
Gomel got its Belarus Premier League season off to a good start with a comfortable win over Tsmoki Minsk’s second team. The home team lead from the off, using a 22-19 first quarter and a 25-15 to have a double digit lead at halftime, the scoreboard reading 47-34. During the third the hosts eased off but won the stanza 14-13 to make it 61-47 through 30 minutes. In the final act Gomel cruised through the closing minutes to win the game.
Grodno 93 – Rubon 2nd, 117-44
Rubon’s second team slipped badly to a crushing defeat on the road at Grodno. The second century score of the night saw the home team win the game by a huge 73 point margin as they punished in attack and embarrassed the visitors in defence. In the second half the hosts held Rubon 2 to just 20 points and the box score (33:14, 21:10, 33: 9, 30:11) tells its own story.
SDUSHOR Minsk 2006 vs. BSU, 44:82
A terrible attacking display from Minsk handed an easy win to visiting outfit BSU in Round 1. A low scoring first half brought just 17 points for the hosts, while BSU charged to win the first frame 10-16 and the second 7-25 (17-41 at the midway buzzer). The visitors edged the third stanza 17-18 to extend the lead, and then used a big 10-23 final quarter to claim a comfortable win.
