Bayern Munich unbeatable in BBL

Bayern Munich crushed Science City Jena on Saturday (103 – 71). As a result, they extended their undefeated record in the German League to an impressive 18-0.

The Bavarian hosts outscored their opponents 28-14 in the second quarter and never looked back. The visitors from Jena never turned things around and Bayern cruised to an easy victory at home.

Six players scored in double figures for the winners, with Nihad Dedovic having a team-high 16 points. Rolands Roberts stood out for the losing squad and made a double-double (game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds).

Bayern improved to 18-0, whereas Jena dropped to 3 – 14.

As a result, coach Dejan Radonjic, and his players remained four wins above second-placed Oldenburg (14-4). If Bayern keeps playing like this, they will easily secure the top spot in the regular season standings.

At the same time, the team is fighting for the qualification to the EuroLeague playoffs. After 21 games, they are seventh with an 11-10 record. Bayern currently are on a two-game winning streak. They have won three of their last four games and have the upper hand in the playoff race.

Bayern unbeatable

At the moment, seven teams are fighting for the last two playoff spots. These teams are Bayern Munich, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Zalgiris Kaunas, Khimki, Armani Milano, Baskonia and Panathinaikos.

Bayern (11-10) is three wins ahead of Khimki (8-13) and Zalgiris Kaunas (8-13) and two above Panathinaikos (9-12) and Maccabi (9-12).

Furthermore, they are also ahead of Armani Milano (10-11) and Baskonia (10-11). With that in mind, the next few games will determine whether Bayern will come closer to the postseason.

They have a very diffiult schedule ahead of them until mid-March. Bayern will play five Euroleague games on the road and just two at home until March 20.

The Germans will only host Maccabi and Barcelona in Munich. Their away games include the likes of Zalgiris, Olympiacos, Buducnost, Real Madrid and Baskonia.

That said, Bayern now has three straight games on the road (Baskonia, Real, Buducnost). If they are victorious in two of them, they will make a vital step towards the postseason.

Overall, the target of Bayern Munich is to go all the way in the German League and reach the EuroLeague playoffs.

The roster consists of players that can make the difference on both ends. Derrick Williams is the leader, with Danilo Barthel, Dedovic and Stefan Jovic as the supporting cast.

Coach Radonjic will want to see all his players be at their very best in every game. Otherwise, the team will most likely struggle to make it to the EuroLeague playoffs.
