Andreas Wagner will be the next head coach of Szolnoki Olajbanyasz (Hungary- A Divison). The team is coming off a subpar year where they finished fifth in the A Division standings with a 20-14 record. In the playoffs, Szolnoki Olajbanyasz was eliminated in the quarterfinals after blowing a 2-0 series lead against ZTE-KK (Hungary- A Division). They also competed in the Champions League but finished last in their group with a 2-12 record.
Wagner makes the move after coaching solely in Germany over the last 19 years. Most recently, Wagner was the head coach of SC Rasta Vechta (Germany-BBL) over the last two seasons. He left the team after a miserable 2-30 season which left them in second-to-last in the BBL. This was his first opportunity to be a head coach in the BBL. FC Bayern Muenchen (Germany-BBL) gave him his first opportunity in the league with an assistant coaching position from 2012-2015. He found out what life was like on one of the best teams coming out of Germany with two consecutive trips to the BBL Championship. The team won it all in 2013/2014 but failed to repeat as they lost in the finals the next season.
