Achilles tear could sideline Elliot Williams for the season

Elliot WilliamsThe Portland Trailblazers’ Elliot Williams has been preparing for his third season in the NBA, now the question is, when will he be able to step foot on a basketball court next after tearing his left achilles during a workout. Williams (1.96m, college: Memphis) will have surgery to repair the injury, but the team doesn’t know how long he’ll be out. Achilles tears generally require nearly a full calendar year for rehabilitation.
He had to sit out his rookie season (2010-11) due to having pre-season surgery on both knees and then sat out most of 2011-12 after having surgery on his shoulder for an injury sustained at a team practice.
Williams was working out in a voluntary team workout organized by Blazer forward LaMarcus Aldridge. “With so many new players, they’re getting to know each other, they are lifting weights, they are doing conditioning drills and then they are playing,” Blazers coach Terry Stotts commented. “As much as we can do with them, within a group, is limited. But it’s all been very positive.”
