7DAYS EuroCup: Bayern makes last eight

7DAYS EuroCup

One more club joined the 7DAYS EuroCup quarterfinals on Wednesday evening as Bayern Munich defeated Turin to progress. Group E and Group G are already tied up. However, one club can join Bayern Munich from Group F and Group H remains open. With one week of the Top 16 to play, there are still three qualification places up for grabs.

Group E

Group E is already settled after Gran Canaria booked its place in the 7DAYS EuroCup quarterfinals yesterday. Group leader Darussafaka Istanbul was already certain of its last eight place, but tied up first place in the standings with a 77-63 home win over city rival Galatasaray Istanbul. The win allowed Darussafaka to remain unbeaten in the Top 16 at 5-0 with one rounds left. Eliminated Galatasaray dropped to 1-4.

Group F

Bayern Munich swept into the next round of the 7DAYS EuroCup thanks to an amazing 24-0 run in the third act against Fiat Turin. The win allowed the German club to build a 108-81 demolition and take place at the top of Group F with a 4-1 record. As for Turin, the Italian club will meet Zenit St. Petersburg next week in a do-or-die clash for a last eight berth. As for Zenit, the Russians set a club record points haul in a 113-100 win over Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius. In a modern classic, Zenit went big to move to 3-2 in second place, while Rytas was eliminated on this loss down on 1-4.

Group G

Already qualified Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar continued to lay down its title credentials with a 77-66 win over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica. Both these clubs had already qualified, but Buducnost needed a win to keep its chances of claiming first place alive. As it was, Lokomotiv guaranteed it will win the group and moved to 5-0… still the only club with a 100% record in the EuroCup this season. Elsewhere, Dolomiti Energia Trento defeated Cedevita Zagreb 77-81 on the road in a dead rubber. In a game for pride, the visitors moved to 2-3 win, while Zagreb continued its losing run at 0-5 without a win.

Group H

UNICS Kazan needed a win to keep its hopes alive and managed it, albeit after a nervy overtime period. A 77-83 road win over ASVEL allowed the Russians to move to 3-2 in the standings. That’s the same record as ASVEL and Emilia, with all three able to qualify next week. Group H is the only group that is still wide open with one round to play.
