3-Way Tie Atop Greek A1 League

Greek A1 League After four rounds three teams in the Greek A1 League remain undefeated and they have claimed the top spots in the standings. As expected, league rivals Olympiacos and Panathinaikos Athens have surged ahead to 4-0 starts. They are joined by Peristeri GS Athens at the apex. After the top-3, six teams form a middle pack with identical 2-2 records. As more weeks pass by and more basketball is played out, we will get a clearer picture at which teams look to be in the running for the league leadership and for playoff berths.

Olympiacos survived a relatively close game on Sunday against Aris Thessaloniki but wound up prevailing in the end 68-64. Aris falls to 13th place with their now 1-3 record. Aris got a huge 25-point performance from Lucky Jones but the red shirts were able to nullify the rest of his team and forced him to carry the load. At the end of the day, Olympiacos was just too much for Aris to handle. It was not a blowout though, so that can be tucked into their pockets as a moral victory; knowing they were close to defeating one of the Greek A1 Titans.

Panathinaikos had an easier path to secure their fourth win on Sunday. They cruised to an 88-64 victory over Rethymno Cretan Kings. Belgian star Matt Lojeski paced Panathinaikos with 16 points on some very efficient scoring. Panathinaikos was in full control of this game from the beginning and were not in any threat of losing it to their guests.
