Zion Williamson Named ACC Player and Rookie of the Year

Zion Williamson

Just like that. There was little surprise as Zion Williamson was named the ACC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Even though he’s missed Duke University’s last several games with a sprained knee, Zion’s put together enough of an impressive resumé this season, that there was little doubt that he would get the necessary votes to come away with both awards.

On the season, Williamson has recorded averages of 21.6 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.2 spg and 1.8 bpg in 26 games. He got 49 votes for player of the year and 47 votes for rookie of the year. His teammate R.J. Barrett, UNC’s Cam Johnson, Virginia’s Kyle Guy and De’Andre Hunter join Williamson in rounding out the ACC’s first team.

Zion and Duke fans have also something else to cheer about. Word is that the Blue Devil superstar will be able to return to action for the upcoming ACC tournament, instantly catapulting Duke as the heavy favorite to win it. They will enter the tournament as the number three seed. His return could not come at a better time, with Duke sliding down the AP Poll rankings due to some key loss in his absence. At this point, all Williamson really needs to do is to avoid any more injuries as he’s already locked up consensus as the number one overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft.
