Željko Obradović is the new head coach of Partizan Belgrade!
The legendary basketball coach who has won 9 EuroLeague titles, including the one with Partizan NIS back in 1992 as a player, has returned to his favorite club.
Obradović has signed a 3-year contract with the black-and-whites. The sensational news was announced by club president Ostoja Mijailović.
“We are very happy and pleased to announce that Željko Obradović has returned to Partizan NIS. It is hard for me to find the right words to describe how much this means to our club. We will talk more at the official press conference. We have a lot of work ahead of us,”
Last season was a dramatical one for Partizan as the head coaches came and went. They had three in total.
Željko Obradović is considered by many as the best European coach of all time. Last year he had a sabbatical, and people started to wonder if he was planning to retire, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Recently Zoran Savic became the new sports director of Partizan Belgrade, and that too was headline news since Savic was a legendary player for Yugoslavian and Serbian basketball. Since he took over, the rumors about the return of Obradović have been flying around, and the word on the street is also that Partizan will get a guaranteed spot in the Euroleague after next season. Long story short, it looks like the club from Belgrade has some big plans for the future.
