Zalgiris Kaunas Defends Their Lithuanian Title Again

Zalgiris BC Zalgiris Kaunas has done it again. The Lithuanian Powerhouse beat Lietuvos Rytas 80-70 in Game 5 to successfully defend their crown, claiming their eighth straight LKL title. It may have taken them five games to get the job done, but Zalgiris can add this to their long list of accolades, right beside their top-four finish in the 2018 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Zalgiris’ came through in the second half with an amazing performance. The American import exploded for 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists to lead the green shirts to victory. He stepped up on the offensive end in the third quarter to help erase Lietuvos Rytas’ three-point first-half lead.

Lietuvos Rytas looked to their reserves and they did rise to the occasion. Loukas Mavrokefalidis dropped 20 markers off the bench. Chris Kramer was the team’s top performer with a 12-point, 10-assist double-double.

After all was said, done, scored, passed and rebounded; Zalgiris reigned supreme. Their dynasty is now eight seasons long and even with some other Lithuanian clubs improving, Zalgiris has yet to face an indomitable foe in the LKL.
