Zadar upsets Buducnost at ABA League
Things are heating up even further in the ABA League after a three-way tie has formed atop of the standings. On Sunday, everyone was stunned to witness KK Zadar pull-off a stunning upset over league-leading KK Buducnost Voli Podgorica 82-75.
This was just the third loss for the Montenegrin powerhouse. Their 9-3 record is shared by Cedevita Olimpija and BC Partizan NiS Beograd. The ever-elusive last slot in the top-4 currently belongs to Primorska, who are currently at 8-3 but will be playing tonight vs. Crvena Zvezda for the last game of Round 12.
The competition in this league is absolutely crazy with several teams in clear striking distance to take the solo lead.
Zadar leaned heavily on the efforts Byron Allen, who kept on shooting the rock until it found its mark. He struggled from 2-point range making just 4-of-13 shot from there, but Allen kept firing and before you knew it, he had 22 points on the night. Bashir Ahmed added 17 points of his own.
One of the key factors to Zadar’s success was their ability to win the rebounding war. They recorded 42 rebounds compared to 33 by Buducnost. Two Zadar players, Domagoj Vukovic and Dominic Gilbert each pulled down 11 rebounds for the winners.
Aleksa Ilic led Buducnost’s charge with 14 points and five rebounds.
