Vytautas captures first Baltic League crown in 2017
Vytautas Prienu (Lithuania-LKL) has captured its first-ever Baltic League crown this 2017 after defeating fellow Lithuanian club, Pieno Zvaigzdes Pasvalys (Lithuania-LKL) in the finals, 74-89. They made it to the league finals twice. Once in 2013 and then again in 2014.
Vytautas faced some fierce competition on their road to the top, having to down formidable opponents such as Parnu, Valmiera, and even Estonian powerhouse Kalev/Cramo.
The eventual champions were up for the task early and jumped to an 11-22 lead at the end of first quarter. Their opponents would battle back in the second frame with more offense but Vytautas kept in stride, preserving most of their lead.
In the end, Vytautas was able to outgun their opponents and held on for the win. Strong shooting from the perimeter as well as being able to get 11 steals in this game had an effect in determining the outcome.
Regimantas Miniotas would end up pacing Vytautas with a game-high 20 points. Tomas Delininkaitis and Tadas Klimavicius added 18 and 16 points, respectively.
Pieno Zvaigzdes was led by Andriy Agafonov who finished with 18 points.
