Statistical 1st team All-DBL

The Dutch regular season is over, and the playoffs are about to start. That’s the perfect timing to introduce the 2016/2017 season 1st Team All-DBL. We base our selection ONLY on the advanced statistics of Player Efficiency Rating (PER). This is a one-number measure of a player’s per-minute productivity. It is an overall efficiency statistic that sums up a player’s positive accomplishments, subtracts the negative accomplishments, and returns a per-minute rating of a player’s performance. Until recently only the NBA used this advanced statistic.

CHASE FIELER IS THE STATISTICAL REGULAR SEASON MVP

Chase Fieler, a 203 cm (6’8) forward who plays for Groningen, has the highest PER with 26.6. Fieler averaged 15,4 ppg while connecting 72 % of his 2pt Field Goals and 39,5 % from three-point land. He also averaged 7,8 rpg and 2,5 aspg. Not only did Chase Fieler have the highest PER in the league but he also ranked number 1 in the traditional efficiency category. His teammate Lance Jeter (191 cm, guard) was voted MVP of the regular season by the coaches. But he was only ranked 6th in both PER and regular efficiency.Chase Fieler

Craig Osaikhwuwuomwam (211 cm, Leeuwarden) led the league in rebounds per game (11,5), but that was only 19,3 % of the available rebounds while he was on the floor. Nevertheless, he ranked 3rd in that category.

Leigh Enobakhare (206 cm, Leiden ) had a block percentage of 9,8. In other words, while he is on the floor he blocks almost one in every ten opponent field-goal attempts. Amazing!  He was followed by Andre Smith (206 cm, Groningen) with 7,1 %. Smith led the traditional category of most blocked shots averaged per game.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF PASSERS

One of the most unselfish players in the league was Nigel van Ostrum (196 cm, Zwolle). His assist ratio was 40 ( 40 assists out of every 100 possessions he used). Lance Jeter (191 cm, Groningen) was the runner-up in both categories but the lead the traditional one of most assists per game (6,2).
