Red Star sets European attendance record
Kombank Arena saw a deluge of red and white as 24,232 fans poured in on Wednesday to watch Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) Telekom Beograd duel Budivelnik Kiev in Eurocup action. Red Star has one of the biggest and most loyal fan bases in all of Europe and their army of supporters marched in full force to cheer for their team. The spectator head count shattered Europe’s single-game attendance record for an indoor basketball game. The fans were rewarded with an exciting game that went into overtime which eventually saw Red Star victorious 79-70.
The previous record was set on March 5, 2009 in the same arena as 22,567 fans came to watch a Turkish Airlines Euroleague game between Panathinaikos Athens (Greece) and Red Star rival, BC Partizan NiS Beograd.
