Radnicki challenges Serbian Federation

Radnicki KragujevacRadnicki is on collision course with the Serbian Basketball Federation after today. The dispute is about the different interpretations of what is an import player and what is a domestic player.

KK Radnicki Kragujevac is hosting the Serbian cup next week (Radivoje Korac cup) and there, as well as in the championship, a maximum of four import players are allowed. Radnicki also plays in the Adriatic League where there are no limitations.

In any case, Radnicki claims to have only four import players, but the Serbian Federation claims that the number is eight! That is the number of players on the Radnicki roster that is NOT eligible to play for the Serbian national team and therefore are regarded as import players.

Radnicki rejects this, because all four of these players have a Serbian passport. The reason why they are not eligible to play for the national team, is because they have dual citizenship and have already played for another national team before.

Today was the deadline for the teams to submit their rosters for the Serbian cup. Red Star Belgrade has five import players and left American Elton Brown out of the roster, while Partizan Belgrade also has five import players and left Frenchman Joffrey Lauvergne out. Both teams will play the cup games with an incomplete and weakened roster.

Radnicki on the other hand shocked everybody by submitting a team roster with all their available import players (currently six, since two are injured). Hereby directly challenging the Serbian Basketball Federation and seeking the confrontation.

Will Radnicki be disqualified? It would be an unbelievable anti-climax of the event that is hosted by Radnicki in Kragujevac!

On the other hand, if the Serbian Basketball Federation does nothing, then that too would be an unprecedented scandal.

Who will blink first? Will there be a compromise? The clock is ticking. Tip-off is this Thursday!
