Philadelphia 76ers vs. Golden State Warriors – Regular Season Stats & Betting Trends

Can The Sixers Avoid Their Fourth Consecutive Loss?

Philadelphia 76ers Season Stats:

  • Scoring Offense: 119.2 PPG – 6TH
  • Offensive Efficiency: 120.0 points per 100 possessions – 6TH
  • Scoring Defense: 112.4 PPG – 10TH
  • Defensive Efficiency: 113.2 points per 100 possessions – 8TH

The Philadelphia 76ers have the third-best record in the Eastern Conference. And during an 11-day stretch (from January 12 through January 22), the team reeled off six straight victories. Since that time, though, the Sixers find themselves amid a three-game losing streak.

This includes a 130-104 shellacking at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night. Kelly Oubre Jr. scored a team-high 25 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Patrick Beverley added 14 points and five assists, while Paul Reed contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Without Joel Embiid (knee) and Tyrese Maxey in the lineup due to injuries, the Sixers had a tough time scoring as they shot just 44.6 percent from the field and 17.2 percent from 3-point range.

“Had a good start to the game, first quarter defensively was excellent,” 76ers coach Nick Nurse said after the game. “Pretty much through the second quarter too until about four minutes to go. They went on a big run, a lot of stuff at the rim and dunks and things like that. We just never really got back to guarding the ball,”

The Sixers jumped out to a 28-20 lead after the first quarter. Unfortunately, they were outscored 110-76 the rest of the way by a Trail Blazers team that had won just 13 times coming into that game. If Embiid is forced to sit out again, the Sixers’ losing streak could reach four games, which would be a season high.

Can The Warriors Knock Off An Injury-Riddled Sixers Squad?

Golden State Warriors Season Stats:

  • Scoring Offense: 118.6 PPG – 8TH
  • Offensive Efficiency: 118.0 points per 100 possessions – 11TH
  • Scoring Defense: 119.0 PPG – 22ND
  • Defensive Efficiency: 118.5 points per 100 possessions – 24TH

On the other side of this matchup, the Golden State Warriors occupy the No. 13 spot out west. They have produced just three wins across their last 10 decisions. The team has also dropped each of its last two games.

This includes a 116-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Stephen Curry led all scorers with 26 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field. He also had eight assists and four rebounds.

Andrew Wiggins added 16 points and five rebounds. Klay Thompson struggled in this one, scoring just nine points on 4-for-10 shooting from the floor.

While Memphis shot 37 percent from the field, they converted 20 of their 54 attempts from beyond the arc. They outscored the Warriors by a 30-point margin in this category.

“We played very poorly defensively, but a lot of that had to do with our offense,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said via ESPN. “Nineteen turnovers that turned into 30 points.

“Their game plan was simple: Shoot as many 3s as possible and get into transition as often as possible. For us to foul 25 times to their 12, that’s the story. They just played a really clean game.”

With the Sixers possibly missing their top two scorers, this could tip the game in Golden State’s favor. However, the Grizzlies have been hit with a rash of injuries, and they managed to come out on top.

Now that we have set the table for this matchup, let us look at the betting trends for both sides.

The Picks

The Spread

The Warriors opened as a 4.5-point favorite. At the time of this writing, the line has dipped to 3.5 points for the home team (per pre-game.com). Here is a look at how both teams have fared against the spread this season.

  • The Sixers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
  • Philadelphia is 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games.
  • In their last six January contests, the Sixers are 2-4 against the spread.
  • The Warriors are 4-2 ATS in their last six games.
  • Golden State is 4-1 ATS the last five times the team has played on a Tuesday.

Based on the above trends, going with the home team to cover is the best option.

Prediction: Golden State Warriors (-3.5)

Over/Under

The projected over/under total for this matchup opened at 235 points. The line has recently moved to 235.5 points. Here is why going with the “over” is the smart choice.

  • The total has gone OVER six times in the Sixers’ last eight games.
  • The OVER total has prevailed four times in Philadelphia’s last five matchups against Western Conference opponents.
  • In the Warriors’ last eight games, the OVER total prevailed seven times.
  • The total has gone OVER in each of Golden State’s last five home games.
  • The OVER total cashed in five times in the Warriors’ last six games against Eastern Conference teams.

Prediction: OVER 235.5 points

Player Prop Bets

Because there are no player prop bets available for the Sixers as of yet, we will focus on the key player to watch for the home team. That player is none other than Stephen Curry. He currently has -135 odds of scoring more than 27.5 points and +105 odds of finishing with more than 27.5 points.

Here is a glance to see how his numbers stack up against the projected points total for this matchup.

  • On the season, Curry is averaging 27.3 points per outing.
  • In 23 home contests, he is averaging 28.3 PPG.
  • Curry has played 12 times against Eastern Conference teams. In those contests, he is averaging 27.3 points per outing.
  • Curry has played five times on a Tuesday this season. He is averaging 29.8 points per game.
  • During January, he is averaging 27.3 PPG, exceeding the points total for this matchup four times during that stretch.

Based on his recent body of work, going with the “over” for Curry is the smart choice here.

Prediction: Stephen Curry OVER 27.5 points
