Petrochimi wins Iranian Championship
Petrochimi Bandar Imam Harbour is the new champion in Iran after beating rival Mahram with 84-78 in the 5th and decisive game of the play off final. Mahram Tehran was the defending champion for the last five years. An interesting fact was the Slovenian impact on this year’s championship series.
Sani Becirovic plays for Petrochimi while his father Mehmet coaches Mahram, where another Slovenian also plays; Marko Milic.
The other import player there is Dutch veteran and ex-NBA player Francisco Elson (2010, California’99).
The other import playing for Petrochimi alongside Becirovic is Ibrahim Jabber, who plays in Iran with his Bulgarian passport. Jabber made headlines a few weeks ago after he left Euroleague team Zalgiris Kaunas from Lithuania and said that he would never play in Europe again.
