Petrochimi wins 2014 Iranian Championship

Petrochimi

Petrochimi Bandar Imam Harbor are now back-to-back Iranian Superleague Champions after winning Game 5 of the Finals in overtime, 110-106 against Mahram Tehran. The series was between two of the league’s top teams. Both clubs swept their match-ups in Playoffs en route to their clash in the Finals.

Petrochimi had to overcome a monster of a game from Mahram’s Hamed Haddadi who poured in 52 points and grabbed 16 rebounds! The big man also managed to knock down all of his shots from beyond the arc (3-3). The only blemish in his stellar game was his 9-17 shooting from the free-throw line. It was, however, virtually a one-man show. Technically it was a two-man game for Mahram as Mohammad Samad Nikkhah Bahrami added 25 points and six assists. The duo unfortunately were the only productive members of their squad as their other teammates were invariably ice-cold from the field and from downtown.

In contrast, Petrochimi saw four of its players hit double figures. They were led by import Jonathan Gibson who delivered with 41 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Arsalan Kazemi posted a strong line as well with 16 points and 13 boards. Behnam Yakchali scored 15 points and Hamed Afagh added 14 points as well.
