The Memphis Grizzlies have announced that they will not be renewing the contract of head coach Lionel Hollins. This is comes after Hollins led the Grizzlies to a strong post-season run this 2012-13 season. They outlasted the Los Angeles Clippers, but were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. Hollins, who has yet to make an announcement regarding his future, is currently on the radar of some NBA teams who have head coaching vacancies.
Grizzlies CEO Jason Levien had this to say on the matter:
“After a thorough internal process, which included conversations with Lionel and his representatives, we decided as an organization to move in a different direction,” Levien said. “On behalf of the Grizzlies organization I would like to thank Lionel for his service and hard work in helping this organization throughout his years in Vancouver and Memphis.”
